The Ann Arbor Art Fair is almost here!

Next week the streets of town will be filled to brim with art, artists and art lovers. The show runs from Wednesday, July 16 through Saturday, July 19. Hours are 10 AM – 9 PM Wednesday-Friday and 10 AM – 6 PM Saturday.

Although I’ve been in the Ann Arbor show for the last several years, I’m going to be in a different location this year–Booth A138 on E. Washington St. I’ll have my contemporary wall quilts in a variety of sizes and colors–maybe one will be perfect to add warmth and texture to your walls!

Lime Stacked Boxes at right is an example of the work I’ll be showing. It’s created with hand dyed solid fabrics purchased from my favorite fabric company, Cherrywood Fabrics. I cut the fabrics into shapes and arrange them intuitively into  a pleasing composition, then add texture and dimension by stitching free hand designs with my sewing machine. The piece is mounted on artist’s canvas that I paint black, so it’s easy to hang from a wire on the back. If you’re in the area, I hope you’ll stop by and see me!

And I’m excited because I just purchased a brand new Lightdome tent that should be easier to put up and take down by myself, plus allow a lot more light into my booth. I spent about two hours this afternoon putting it up in the driveway as a trial run. Good thing too, because it wasn’t quite as easy as I thought it was going to be! Thank goodness for the company’s YouTube videos to get me out of a jam. I had planned to get a picture, but my camera didn’t cooperate.

photo (59)I did get this shot of the tent frame just barely fitting into my car! I did check with the company before I ordered it and measured, but it would have really been unfortunate if it didn’t fit.

I’ll get a picture next week when I set it up in Ann Arbor.

I was working on pillows last week for a new shop in Cape Cod, MA called Quilt-photo (60)ish of Cape Cod. You can visit their Facebook page here where there are some great shots of the finished pillows. The shop just opened last week, so if you’re in the Cape Cod area, think about stopping by!

And if you’re in the Atlanta area, I have six wall pieces in the Summer Swan Invitational exhibit at the Swan Coach House gallery. Visit their website here for more information. The show goes until the first week in August.
