I’m excited to be back in Ann Arbor, MI for the Ann Arbor Art Fair this weekend. Yesterday during setup, the downtown area was being transformed into a showplace for art, artists and art lovers. The show has NEW DATES and HOURS this year, running from today, Thursday July 21, through Sunday, July 24. Hours are 10-9 Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and noon – 6 on Sunday.

Second Chances - Cindy Grisdela Art Quilts

“Second Chances” in Process – Cindy Grisdela

I’m in Booth 140 on E. Washington St. and I have quite a few new art quilts for the wall in a variety of sizes and colors–maybe one will be perfect to add color and texture to your walls, or to give as a special gift! One of my new pieces is Second Chances, shown in process at left as I’m adding echoing swirl texture with the sewing machine. I create each piece individually in my studio, designing the composition, stitching it together, and adding texture with the quilting stitches. I don’t have a computer doing the work and I don’t mark the design ahead of time–I’m stitching it all freehand on my sewing machine.

Lime Medley in the top image is a new piece too–I showed it for the first time in Chicago last month. It’s bright and cheerful and makes me smile to see it.

Visit https://www.visitannarbor.org/artfair/ for information on all the happenings in Ann Arbor this weekend–there are four art fairs going on simultaneously in the downtown area, with art in every media, style and price range. It’s a great opportunity to see some of the best art being created in the US today–I hope to see you there!

Hi Cindy. I’m so in love with your art quilts. I want to make a wall hanging but have so little skill. Is it difficult to sew crooked lines together as in piecing the quilt? I just ordered your new book. Thanks for such beauty for the eyes.
