“Around the Block”
Wow, I didn’t realize I’d been AWOL from the blog for so long! I’ve been working almost nonstop getting my eight pieces ready for my next show in July.
Here’s a peak at “Around the Block” after the quilting lines have been added to create interesting texture. I decided to use a single motif on this one, instead of the multiple motifs I usually use, because it seemed to complement the design best.
I did have some photography issues on this one–in reality the quilting lines are much more subdued than the photo suggests.
This piece, along with seven others, will hang in a show in July with friend and fellow artist Jennifer Duncan. More details about the show will be up shortly. I’m in such a hurry to get them quilted because they have to go to the framer next to be gallery-wrapped and mounted so they hang on the wall like a picture. With eight pieces at a time, that takes a while. Sometimes being an artist isn’t so much about creative freedom, but also about figuring out how to be creative on a deadline!
You might remember this piece from Day 25 of my March Project, where I challenged myself to create 30 pieced art quilt tops–roughly one a day for a month. You can read about the process here It’s interesting to me that this top was the one I had the most trouble with, but it has turned out to be one of my favorites from the project.
