"Endless Marbles" unquilted top Cindy Grisdela 2011

Back to the Marbles theme again, “Endless Marbles” is Day 13. I’m having fun with these curved shapes after several days of more linear designs. Looking at the photo, I may have to rework the borders on the right side so the edges of the top and bottom units don’t fade into the border, but I’ll have to save that for another day!

The colors on this one really appeal to me. I started out with mostly autumn tones–several shades of cinnamon brown, olive green and pumpkin, but then I added some bright reds, blues and greens. They seem to add punch to mix and make the design more interesting. I can see using a variety of spiral quilting motifs on this to go with the Marbles theme.

If you’re new to the project, I challenged myself to create one art quilt a day for the month of March. Each piece is 16″x20,” uses only solid fabrics, and is entirely pieced by machine, not fused. I’ll choose the best of them, quilt them and mount them on stretcher bars, and show them in an exhibit later this year. I’m posting nearly every day on my progress, so check back often! My inspiration was fellow artist Jill Banks deciding in January to paint 100 faces in 100 days. Click on her name to see her progress as well.
