"Pueblo" 2013 Cindy Grisdela 12x12

“Pueblo” 2013 Cindy Grisdela 12×12

It was a great day yesterday at the McLean Project for the Arts Artfest – sunny and warm and the rains held off until today, thankfully!

I had fun meeting new people and reconnecting with those I hadn’t seen in a while. Thanks to everyone for coming out and chatting.

Several pieces found new homes yesterday, including Pueblo, at right. This is one of my favorites because the texture of the stitching shows so clearly – if you right-click on the image, you’ll be able to see it better.

I had one side of my booth dedicated almost entirely to my new small

pieces mounted on painted canvas, and it was a treat to watch visitors stop and go over each one in turn before they decided which one they liked best.

Several of them are so new they hadn’t been

professionally photographed, including Summer Garden and Midnight Garden, which both went to new homes yesterday too. I only have rough snapshots of those. In the side view of Summer Garden, you can see the edges of the painted canvas better.

These pieces are great fun because of the stylized flower and leaf shapes that I stitched into the composition. Both the “garden” and the pebbles below the path were stitched with variegated thread that contrasted with the background so they would stand out.

As always, my stitching is done free-hand on a regular home sewing machine without being computerized or marked ahead of time. I just stitch the design out as though I had a pen in  my hand instead of a needle and thread. So each one is unique.

I hope the new owners of these pieces will enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them!
