More Journal Covers in Process – and a Start on a New Piece

More Journal Covers in Process 2012 Cindy Grisdela

I’m still working away at the journal cover tops–I’m up to 14 now! I can see possibly I need

some more in the autumn color range. It’s a little like eating potato chips, you can’t stop with just one–I still have quite a few ideas for new covers. Which is a good thing!

New Untitled Work 2012 Cindy Grisdela

While I was concentrating on the journals, I got an idea for a new wall piece–untitled as yet, since it’s just off the sewing machine! Actually it’s just the central piece that’s been sewn together and laid on top of a piece of deep red–it looks sort of purpley in the photo, but it really is more of a scarlet red.

At one of the shows I did last summer, I got several inquiries about horizontal pieces and I realized that I really do have mostly vertical work. Maybe that’s just the way I feel most comfortable creating. But I decided that I would put together some horizontal pieces for the fall shows. This one was inspired by the wonderful colors from my trip to Santa Fe in August. I’m thinking about how to quilt it as I work–it’s probably going to end up being about 20″h x 32″w.

Checking my website for horizontal wall pieces, I do have a few here and here, if you’re interested!

Earlier in the week I mailed three wall pieces and three pillows to be exhibited at the 44th Annual Celebration of American Crafts in New Haven, CT. I was asked to participate in this show while I was in Boston doing the Craftboston Spring event. It runs from October 26 – December 24 this year. Click on the link for more information.

And next Thursday I’m hanging a show at the Pinnacle Building in Tyson’s Corner, VA with fellow fiber artists Eileen Doughty and Floris Flam. It’s called “Cutting Edge Fiber with a Soft Edge” and it will be up through the end of the year as well. I’ll write more about it next week.

Mark your calendars for my next show, the Downtown Art Festival in Gainesville, FL on Oct. 13-14. This is my first time doing this show and I’m really looking forward to it, because it takes place in my home town.

Then I’ll be doing the Great Falls Studios Ninth Annual Studio Tour the following weekend, Oct. 20-21. If you click on the link to go to the GFS website, you’ll be able to download a brochure of the participating artists and a map to plan your visit. Also, you can register to win one of forty $50 gift certificates that will be good to purchase art during the tour. If you’ve visited my studio before, please take note that this year I’ll be in the Artist’s Atelier sharing space with fellow artist Jennifer Duncan--1144 Walker Road, Suite G, Great Falls. It’s going to be fun!

Plus there will be more shows in November and December. It’s a busy time.
