I made it to Chicago today for the Old Town Art Fair this weekend–Saturday, June 14 and Sunday, June 15 from 10 – 6 both days.

Getting out of DC was no easy feat yesterday, and I was glad I had made the decision earlier in the week to make the 12 hour trip in two days. It took me over two hours to get 10 miles from my house! It’s all part of the life of a traveling show artist, though and I was very glad when I got here mid-afternoon instead of this evening.

Setup is very early tomorrow morning, so after I checked into the hotel I went down to the show site to do a recon mission. It’s a beautiful old neighborhood in Chicago’s Old Town district, near Lincoln Park–lovely tree-lined streets and charming homes.

There was even time to get some deep-dish Chicago pizza for dinner!

This is my first time doing this show, but it’s been going on for 65 years, so I’m sure they have the kinks worked out. There are 250 artists in a variety of media–painting, sculpture, photography, jewelry, ceramics, fiber and more.

I did get a few new pieces made for the show before I left home. Above is Seashore, a minimalist design with interesting texture in the stitching. This is the third one in this series and I’m intrigued with the possibilities, so hopefully there will be more. This piece is 20″ square and is mounted on canvas that I’ve painted black.

I’m in Booth 184 on Orleans St. at the show, and if you’re in the Chicago area, I’d love to see you!
