Two of my favorite quilts went to new homes at the Ann Arbor Art Festival!

Playing with Crayons II at left went home with a lovely family to add a splash of color to their dining room. They stopped by my booth near the end of the first day of the show and said they had been looking all day for just the right piece to decorate the room around. I was thrilled that they

Cliff Dwellings at right is one of my newest pieces, finished right before the show. It’s mounted on a gallery wrapped canvas painted black. I was really excited about this piece, and very pleased that another fiber artist from Vermont purchased it to add to her inspiration wall. The small square compositions in the brighter colors really seem to pop from the more subdued background–I think this could be the start of another series!

One other piece found a new home as well, a narrow wall hanging called Blue Marbles, which I unfortunately don’t have a picture of at the moment.

The Ann Arbor show was a lot of fun for me this year–I was in a new, more central location, and in the shade for most of the day–which was very important since it was one of the hottest weeks of the year so far in Michigan! Thanks to everyone who braved the heat to stop by and chat about my work. It’s always good to get feedback from visitors about what I’m doing and I’m pleased that my new small pieces mounted on canvas painted black got a lot of attention. Also, many thanks to my son Matt, who spent the week in Ann Arbor with me and whose help was invaluable.

It’s taken me a while to get back into blogging and the studio after this show for some reason–maybe it’s just summer. There just seemed to be a lot of catching up to do and the days just flew by.

Next up is the Art in the High Desert show in Bend, Oregon next month–August 23-25. I’m very excited about this show. Bend is one of my favorite places and it’s the first show I’ve done on the West Coast. The logistics are going to be interesting, getting myself, my booth and my work out to Oregon, but I’ve rented a tent out there so I don’t have to ship mine, and the other pieces are slowly falling into place. Stay tuned!
