Cindy Grisdela SAQA 2015 Auction quiltThe Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) 2015 auction begins today at 2 PM EDT.

It’s a reverse auction held entirely online. All of the quilts are 12″x 12″ in size and they are sold in sections – Section One opens Monday, September 21 and the price is $750. The price drops each day at 2 PM EDT. On Tuesday it will be $550, Wednesday it will be $350, Thursday it will be $250, Friday it will be $150 and Saturday it will be $100. So you have to decide if you want to pay a higher price to make sure and get the quilt you want, or risk waiting for the price to drop and find that someone else snapped up your favorite!

Section Two begins Monday, September 28, Section Three begins Monday, October 5 and Section Four quilts will be sold at the International Quilt Festival in Houston from October 28 – Nov. 1.

There’s a new twist this year–ALL of the quilts will be available for purchase from today, September 18, 2015, at 2 PM until Monday, September 21, 2015 at 1:30 PM for $1,000 each.

My quilt, “Playground” pictured above is in Section Three, which opens on October 5. I love the deep warm reds of the improv blocks contrasting with the dark blue background–echoing swirls in variegated thread add energy to the piece.

The auction is a good way to start a collection or add to one you already have. The funds go to support SAQA’s mission to promote art quilting through education and exhibits. It’s a great organization that I’m happy to support because I’ve gotten so much out of being a member myself. I enjoy donating my work each year and also buying at least one quilt to add to my collection of artists whose work I admire. I’ve become friends with some of the artists this way too! I’ll put up a post about my collection next week.

I have a Pinterest board set up with some of my favorites if you’d like to check it out.

I’ve been working on a big project since I got back from Oregon–hopefully I’ll be able to talk about it soon.
