Center Stage II - Cindy Grisdela Art Quilts

“Center Stage II” Cindy Grisdela donation to 2016 SAQA Benefit Auction

The Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) Annual Benefit Auction began last week. My contribution – Center Stage II – is in Section 2, which starts today.

I was thrilled to receive a promotional postcard from SAQA that included my quilt in the lower left hand corner, shown in the image above.

The auction is a fundraiser for SAQA to help promote its mission of promoting quilts as an art form through education, exhibits and publications. I’ve gotten tremendous benefit from being a SAQA member for the last eight years and I’m happy to donate to the auction each year.

Each art quilt in the auction is 12″ square. Section 2 begins today at 2 PM EDT and each quilt is $750. It’s a reverse auction, so the price goes down each day at 2 PM EDT- $550 Tuesday, $350 Wednesday, $250 Thursday, $150 Friday, and $100 Saturday.

You have to decide if you want to wait to get the piece you love at a lower price, but risk that someone else takes it home first!

Center Stage II is part of a series of art quilts I’ve made exploring the idea of one central improvisational block set with asymmetrical borders. Each border is a different color and has a different free motion stitching motif adding texture–fans, pebbles and round and square spirals.

Terri Stegmiller quilt in Grisdela Collection

Terri Stegmiller art quilt “Still Life” now in the Cindy Grisdela Collection.

The auction is a great way to start an art quilt collection or add to one you already have. In addition to donating my work, I always buy at least one new piece to add to my collection. Last week I bought a wonderful piece, Still Life, by Terri Stegmiller. Her work makes me smile and I’m looking forward to getting it in the mail soon.

You can see the rest of my collection here.

If you’ve read this far, I’d like to thank everyone who took time to comment on my recent post about my Quilt National rejection, either here or on Facebook or Instagram. Your support and encouragement means a lot to me! I’ll keep on creating because that’s who I am and I don’t want to stop. Meanwhile, my sincere congratulations to everyone who was accepted to the show!
