Snow Day January 2011

Our first snow day of the winter today. I grew up in Florida, so I really appreciate the down time that a snow day creates in my routine.  It’s different this year, though, because both boys are away at college, so my husband and I had to shovel the long drive by ourselves! We went out in the middle of the storm last night and shoveled the first time, which was a very good thing, since the snow was heavy and wet. It was so quiet and peaceful out there last night, although I know that many, many people had a horrific time trying to get home and many more are without power today. We both stayed home and worked yesterday and so far, still have power, so I’m counting my blessings. We went out again to shovel this morning and it wasn’t so bad, just a few more inches had accumulated.

Snow days give me a chance to take a break from the routine, for which I’m grateful–it seems like a day of grace, somehow.  All the busyness goes away, appointments are rescheduled, and the landscape is transformed. The only problem I have is that the day seems to fly by! Spending a couple of hours outside shoveling will do that, I guess. Anyway, I’m going to take the opportunity today to spend some quality time quilting the commission I’ve been working on for the last month. It’s gone together well, but I’m anxious to finish it. Plus there’s this beautiful scene of white outside my studio window to contemplate as I sew!

Oh, Cindy, I love how you are quilting this. And the colors!
My feelings about a snow day are the same as yours. Time to slow down, reflect and enjoy the scenery. Losing power for 18 hours will do that!

Thanks Maureen–it’s great to work on something so colorful in the middle of winter!
