“Passages” is Day 27 of my art quilt a day project for the month of March.

"Passages" unquilted top Cindy Grisdela 2011

This is a very different design from most of the rest–you might notice that I started with the leftover wonky stripes from yesterday’s block. I like the way the bright bits of color move through the space.

I can almost guarantee that this one will be much more interesting with the addition of lots of quilting and the texture that provides. Probably I will quilt each segment in a different motif. The next month or so is likely to be taken up with quilting all of these pieces, so you’ll see them again! I don’t think I’m going to quilt them in order–maybe pick my favorites and start with those? Maybe start with the simpler ones and get into a quilting rhythm with them so I will be at my best for the ones I like the most? Hmm–I’ll have to think about that.

I hope to have at least a few of the pieces quilted for the Great Falls Studios Spring Art Festival on April 9-10, 2011–stay tuned for details!

If you’re new to the project, I challenged myself to create one art quilt a day for the month of March. Each piece is 16″x20,” uses only solid fabrics, and is entirely pieced by machine, not fused. I’ll choose the best of them, quilt them and mount them on stretcher bars, and show them in an exhibit later this year. I’m posting nearly every day on my progress, so check back often! My inspiration was fellow artist Jill Banks deciding in January to paint 100 faces in 100 days. Click on her name to see her progress as well.
