I’m having so much fun on the Blog Tour for Adventures in Improv Quilts: Master Color, Design & Construction! I hope you are too.

Today’s featured blogger is Becca Fenstermaker, aka Pretty Piney. I met Becca in an Artful Improv class at Artistic Artifacts in Alexandria, VA in 2018. I was impressed that she had driven down from New Jersey with a friend to take the class, and that she had the most gorgeous fabric that she had hand dyed herself.

Becca decided to try one of the guided exercises in the book to create multiple cut Improv curves–one of my favorite techniques! Head over to her blog at https://prettypiney.com/adventures-in-improv-quilts/ to read all about it.

I’m really excited about this concept in the book of guided exercises–there are three types–multiple cut curves, Improv Puzzle, and freehand curves. They aren’t really patterns–we are talking about Improv after all–but more like guidelines to help you put Improv ideas into practice.

Today’s featured quilt from the book is Playing with Colors–one of my earlier quilts when I was just dipping my toe into Improv. It uses just one multiple cut block in different colors and orientations to create a fun color wheel experiment. This is one of the guided exercises in the book. And it shows that you can create improvisationally even if you prefer to use printed fabrics instead of solids.

Each weekday until Wednesday, October 20, 2021, different bloggers will be posting their perspective on the book. If you add a comment on any of the blogs, you’ll be entered to win an eBook copy of Adventures in Improv, generously donated by C&T Publishing. I’m so grateful to all these talented artists for participating in the Tour and helping me get the word out about my new book!

The winners won’t be chosen until after the Tour ends, so if even you miss a day, you can still go back and participate.

Thanks for following along on the Blog Tour–I really appreciate all your comments! We’re going to take the weekend off, and be back on Monday, October 18.
