"Fire and Ice" Bargello Pattern on Cindy Grisdela

“Fire and Ice” Bargello Pattern on Cindy Grisdela

I’m happy to announce that I’ve added another pattern to my pattern store on –my Fire and Ice bargello-style quilt.

Click here to check it out!

This is one of my favorite quilts–it was the first one I ever entered into a show in 2006 and it got accepted. That was a great feeling as a new artist!

I really like the combination of black and white fabrics with brights–the brights just seem to pop out of the background. This is a good quilt to play with color and value, because the success of the bargello depends on contrast. The black and white fabrics act like a monochrome color scheme to highlight the progression from dark to medium to light and back again.

Bargello-style quilts are fun to make because they look at lot more complicated than they are. You don’t have to cut a lot of tiny pieces–the fabrics are put together in strip sets that are then cut into various widths to create the design.

Also available in my Craftsy pattern store is my Playing with Crayons quilt, which I blogged about here. I’m hoping to continue adding patterns as my schedule permits.

And I’m happy to teach a class on either of these quilts. If your guild or group is interested in that, just contact me to get started.

Since the pattern is finished, I’m back in the studio creating for the new show season. If you’re in the area of any of these events, I hope you’ll stop by and say hello!
