Great Falls Studios Holiday Show 2010

Great Falls Studios Holiday Show 2010

It was a great weekend at the Great Falls Studios Holiday Show! We all had fun seeing old friends and meeting  new ones. I think it’s so much more fun shopping for gifts from talented local artists than going to the mall! I did some of my Christmas shopping with fellow artist Barbara Gatterdam, seated above with her wonderful pottery. The beautiful oil paintings  in the background were created by Jill Banks

I got a lot of positive feedback on my new color pieces, and one of my quilts spoke to someone and went to a new home this weekend–that’s always exciting! Sometimes people ask me how I can be comfortable selling my work when it’s so time-consuming to make. My answer is I’m always gratified when a piece I’ve created makes a connection with someone and they want to live with it or give it as a gift. Making art is all about making connections, I’ve discovered. I enjoy getting feedback from my viewers about what they see in one of my art quilts–sometimes it’s the same thing I was trying to convey and sometimes it’s something completely different, which gives me food for thought for the next quilt I work on. I’ve become so much more creative since I started on this path of showing and selling my work, which was an unexpected benefit.

This was my last formal show of 2010, although I’m putting up a solo exhibit in Maison du Vin in Great Falls later on in the week. I’ll have pictures in a few days!
