Transitions

Transitions is part of a series of work exploring how shapes can shift visually depending on the colors and values used in the composition. Sometimes the viewer sees the various shades of red as the primary shapes, and sometimes the gray comes forward. This tension is fascinating.

All of the shapes were cut freehand without patterns or templates, using my rotary cutter as a drawing tool. Vertical stitching lines add texture and bring the elements together into a cohesive whole.
