The “Something Blue” exhibit is open at the gallery at Artspace Herndon, including “Improvisations,” at right.

The show, curated by fellow Great Falls Studios artist Dorry Emmer, features 78 quilts–some very contemporary, like mine, and some very traditional. It’s a visual feast of color and texture! All the quilts have blue somewhere in them, but not necessarily as the primary element.

The exhibit also includes 39 of the wall pieces created as part of “The June Bride” challenge, which I’ve talked about here and hereĀ . Briefly, each participant was given a vintage quilt block and was challenged to create a new piece of art using that block. It’s interesting to see what each artist did with similar blocks–there are no two even remotely alike!

There will be an opening reception on Sunday, January 26, 2014 from 2 -4 PM. Artspace is located at 750 Center Street, Herndon, VA. Be sure and visit the Artspace link and scroll down to read Dorry’s Q and A about the show–it’s fascinating!

I hope to see you at the reception, but if the timing isn’t right for you, the gallery is open Tuesday – Thursday from 10 AM – 2 PM, Friday and Saturday 10 AM – 5 PM and Sunday 1 – 5 PM. Closed Monday.

Plus don’t forget my “Shared Colors” show up at Katie’s Coffee House in Great Falls, VA through January 31–it’s a great place to drop in for a cup of coffee and a treat–or even lunch! Katie’s is located at 760 Walker Road in Great Falls next to the Old Brogue Restaurant. Read more about the show here.
