Orange and Gray Quilted Wall hanging

“Burst of Orange” 2014 Cindy Grisdela

My newest piece, “Burst of Orange” is just about ready for the American Fine Craft Show at the Brooklyn Museum this weekend!

It still needs to be mounted on the painted black canvas, but the stitching is finished and I couldn’t wait to show it. If you right-click on the image, you’ll be able to see the texture better–I combined some new motifs with old favorites this time. Like all my work, “Burst of Orange” was stitched free-hand on my home sewing machine–no computer or marking ahead of time, just stitching the designs directly onto the piece with my needle and thread.

This one will be finished on a 20″ x 20″ canvas, and I’ll be showing it for the first time this weekend. I’ll be in Booth 74 at the show, which runs from 12-6 on Saturday November 22 and 11-6 on Sunday, November 23. There will be 90 artists in a variety of fine craft media, including ceramics, jewelry, glass, metal, wood, mixed media, and of course wearable and decorative fiber (that’s me!).

I have some other smaller new pieces in the works, plus a selection of wall quilts in a variety of sizes and colors–maybe you’ll see just the right thing for a gift for someone special or even just for yourself!

If you’re in the Brooklyn area, I’d love to see you if you have the chance to stop by this weekend. It’s a beautiful venue and your $12 admission ticket to the show also allows you entrance to the museum collections.
