"Mirage" in process Cindy Grisdela 2010

I’ve been working on the quilting on “Mirage” in odd bits of time over the Thanksgiving weekend so I can have it ready for my next show this weekend, December 3-5. It’s just about finished, as you can see if you right click on the image. Check back to the previous post to see an image of the whole piece.

I do all of my quilting on my home sewing machine. There’s no computer or automatic stitch regulator to create the designs–I’m doing that freehand, without any marking, using my needle to draw the designs I want to create with thread. Because the fabric I used in this piece is fairly busy, I chose one of my favorite motifs, a circular spiral, to use for the quilting. I can’t wait to see it finished at the show!

I’ll be part of “3 Days with the Artists” at Hidden Springs Farm in Great Falls this weekend. It’s a winter tradition that’s been going on for nearly 30 years.  Click here for more information.

The following weekend, December 11-12, I’ll be part of the Great Falls Studios Holiday Show and Sale from 10 AM – 5 PM both days. It’s in a new location this year, at the Village Green Day School. There will be 21 artists showing their work, including paintings, pottery, jewelry and more, plus music on both days. Admission is free. To find out more and download a map, visit the Great Falls Studios website.

These festive events are a great opportunity to buy unique handcrafted gifts for everyone on your shopping list, or maybe something special for yourself. Buy local and avoid the crowds at the mall!

If you have time to stop by, I’d love to see you!
