I’ve had this piece in process on my design wall for more months than I care to think about. I can’t seem to find the inspiration to finish it. One problem is I’ve gotten more interested in exploring pieces made with solid fabrics, so this feels like I’m not moving forward. Another is this is the third or fourth piece in a series–maybe I’m just finished with it?
My plan was to continue the spiky border around at least the two sides it’s already on, and maybe all the way around the piece. But as I was in the studio quilting on the commission piece I’ve been working on, I thought maybe I need to shake up the design a bit.
So this is version 2, at right. I’m not sure I like it better, but one of the things that bothered me about version 1, on the left, is the large area of blue in the upper left, so this version has less of that. Another problem with both of these versions is the heaviness of the border. I’m not sure that’s what I want.
And here is the third version at left. It’s simplified and uses the elements I really liked in the design–the flowing curved shapes and the wonky stripes. Maybe this one will work. I’ll have to let it percolate on the wall for a little while longer.
Comments would be welcome!
Defenitely nr 3!, it’s, , like à stairway to heaven
Thanks so much–it’s great to have input on this one!
Well personally I much prefer version 1. I would finish it off with a plainer colored darker blue/purple–maybe similar to the purple color at the end of the border on the far left of version 1. Version 3 seems a bit heavy to me for whatever it is worth. Version 2 doesn’t look balanced. Good luck.
Thanks so much Ann! I appreciate your suggestions. I’m liking that version too.
