"Shades of Autumn" 2011 Cindy Grisdela

It’s time for the McLean Project for the Arts Artfest 2011 on Sunday, October 2 from 10 AM – 5 PM.It’s one of my favorite events of the year–this will be my fourth year showing here. There are 46 artists in all different media, music, food and fun activities. Click on the link above for more information. I hope to see you there–I’m in tent 44!

Of course I’m busy getting everything finished, tagged and ready to go. The photographer was here last week taking pictures of all my new work, this morning I went to pick up the extra screens I need to set up my booth, and I’m deciding how to arrange my wall pieces on the screens. I’ll also have some new pillows for the show.

I’m excited to have a representative showing of the pieces from my big project of the year–30 quilts designed in the month of March–although I haven’t decided how many will fit yet. At left is “Shades of Autumn,” which is 23″ x 19″ and mounted on stretcher bars with a yummy chocolate background so it hangs on the wall like a picture. I really love the color combinations in this one–rich gold, russet red, soft peach–even the color names make me think of fall!

The stitching on this piece is one of my favorites, sort of an organic fan design which is never the same each time I use it. It creates wonderful texture with curved lines that contrast with the straight lines of the design. Right click on the image to see the stitching more clearly.
