It was a great day for the launch of Creative Spaces: Inside Great Falls Studios, the book Great Falls Studios published in celebration of our group’s tenth anniversary!
We had a nice crowd for the reception at the Great Falls Community
library where the book was unveiled for the first time. Photographer Dean Souleles matted and framed 43 images from the book project to grace the walls of the library’s main conference room for the month of October. They are beautiful and well worth a visit! Dean will be in the library for the Tenth Anniversary Studio Tour on Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20 to talk about the project and his work. It’s a must stop!
I was really happy with the studio shot he framed of my studio. It really shows how important color is to me and to my
work. And it’s a great shot of my studio mate–my black cat Indy.
I came home from the reception to pack the car for the McLean Project for the Arts Artfest tomorrow, Sunday October 6 at the McLean Central Park from 10-5. Here’s a sneak peak at a new piece I just finished for the show. It’s called “Purple Beautyberry” because it was inspired by a beautiful shrub I pass on my morning run every day. Another in the series of small pieces I’ve created and mounted on stretched canvas painted black–this one is 8×10.
I hope you’ll have a chance to stop by the Artfest tomorrow–it’s supposed to be a beautiful day. And if not, mark your calendars for the Great Falls Studios Tenth Anniversary Studio Tour in two weeks–I’ll be in my shared studio space at the Artists’ Atelier at 1144 Walker Road, Great Falls.
