I have a busy weekend coming up!
The McLean Artfest, sponsored by McLean Project for the Arts, is this weekend, Sunday, October 6. It runs from 10-5 at McLean Central Park in McLean, VA.
This show has been one of my favorites over the years–I didn’t participate last year because of a conflict with another show, but I’m looking forward to a great day of art in the park this year! There will be 49 artists at the show, with work ranging from paintings to photography, sculpture to jewelry, and of course–textiles! Click on the link above for more information and to see a list of the artists and their websites for a sneak preview.
At left is “Pueblo,” one of my new small pieces that is mounted on canvas painted black. It hangs on the wall just like a picture from a wire in the back, so it’s easy to find the perfect small spot. I have a series of these pieces, and I’m looking forward to showing them off!
The day before, on Saturday, October 5, you’ll find me at the Great Falls Community Library for the kickoff party and book signing for Great Falls Studios’ new book, Creative Spaces: Inside Great Falls Studios.
The book showcases 16 artist studios, including mine, with photos and text in celebration of Great Falls Studios Tenth Anniversary. Photographer Dean Souleles shot the amazing images, and fellow artists Jennifer Duncan, Laura Nichols and I spent a good part of the summer putting the text and images together and editing, editing, editing.
Join us at the library at 9830 Georgetown Pike in Great Falls for a full day celebrating art, including a reception and book signing from 2-4 PM. Dean will have a selection of the images from the book on display in the library conference room and will be on hand to talk about the process of creating the book.
And mark your calendars for the Great Falls Studios Tenth Anniversary Studio Tour, just three weeks away on Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20. I’ll be in the Artists’ Atelier at 1144 Walker Road, Suite D from 10-5 each day. Visit the website at www.GreatFallsStudios.com for more information and to enter your name for a chance to win one of 40 $50 Art Bucks we’ll be giving away good toward the purchase of art during the tour.
