Happy Friday! I’m pleased to announce that my Playing with Crayons quilt pattern in two sizes is now available for purchase as a digital download on Craftsy.com.

This is one of my favorite quilts of all time–it was one of my first original contemporary designs and it has a special place in my heart.

It’s a great scrap pattern, because you only need 9″ squares of a variety of different fabrics to make it work. I used batiks, but other colorful fabrics could be just as successful. The pattern includes directions to make the original 54″ x 54″ quilt, plus a smaller 36″ x 36″ version, below left. It’s based on a traditional log cabin design, but made modern with angled cuts and contemporary fabric choices.

Crayons has been exhibited in shows all over the country, and it was included in the book 500 Traditional Quilts, curated by Karey Patterson Bresenhan. I wrote about the book in an earlier blog post here. The original quilt is still traveling with a special exhibit in conjunction with the book.

I also teach this pattern, if you’d like me to come to your guild or group. Details are on my website here –just scroll down to get to the Crayons workshop. Contact me to schedule a time!

Putting some of my patterns up on Craftsy was one of my goals for 2015, and I’m happy to be able to say I did it–just in the nick of time! I’m working on some other patterns to add to my pattern store there, so stay tuned!
