I’m thrilled to announce that my studio is featured in the August/September 2020 issue of Quilting Arts magazine! Plus I have an article about using color effectively in your quilts in the  magazine too.

I just got my comp copies in the mail and it’s so exciting to see my work and my studio in print.

Cover of Quilting Arts Magazine August/September 2020 with color article – Cindy Grisdela

It’s such an honor to have my work published here–many thanks to editor Vivika DeNegre and the talented staff at Quilting Arts for this opportunity.

The feature on my studio gives you a peek at my design wall, and my inspiration board over my ironing station, plus some work in process and a cool overhead shot of me stitching at the machine. I am deeply grateful to my photographer, Greg Staley, for taking the amazing photos.

And the color article gives you some of my tips and tricks for using color and adding the spark to take your design to the next level.

Hint of Lime – Cindy Grisdela

Hint of Lime is an older piece but one of my favorites, using yellows, golds, oranges, and pinks in the main part of the composition, plus just one narrow strip of lime green in the lower left to give it a surprise spark. It’s not in the main section of the article but it is in the magazine.

I’m in really good company in this issue–there’s a feature on fabric dyeing artist and teacher Carol Soderlund, great social media tips by Cheryl Sleboda, wow mandala stitching by Mel Beach, and a fun mixed media collage article by Libby Williamson.

Pick up this issue, settle back with a relaxing drink, and let the images and text inspire you!

Congratulations on the features, Cindy! I hope it brings you a lot of new fans!

Your studio is much bigger than I imagined. That’s a huge design wall!

Thank you Rachel–the design wall is a good size, which is great so I can work on multiple things at once.

Your blog post about being featured in Quilting Arts magazine makes me want to go get a copy. I’m fascinated with color. My background is in music so I mostly go by instinct when it comes to color. I’m fascinated how one small change can absolutely make a quilt sing. Congratulations to you on the article!

Thank you Nancy–it’s a good issue and I’m honored to be part of it! I’m an instinctive colorist too, but sometimes it helps to have a few guidelines.
