Color Inspiration from Santa Fe

I’m just back from an inspiring trip to Santa Fe, NM, where the colors had my head spinning!

Wonderful blues and purples contrasting against terracotta walls had me designing new compositions in my head as I walked down the streets. And then there were the flowers!

Both of these shots were taken along a street in the city filled with art galleries. I loved seeing the work of so many talented artists, but it was the colors in the streets that really captured my imagination.

My son has been working in Santa Fe all summer as a theater tech for the Santa Fe Opera Company, so we went out there to see him and two of the shows he’s been working on. I don’t know a great deal about opera, so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was an amazing experience. The theater is a beautiful open-air venue (but the seats are covered so you don’t get wet when it rains) outside of the city. The combination of the night sky and singing, not to mention the amazing sets, was breathtaking.

I’m going to be busy in the studio the next few weeks trying to capture some of these fantastic color combinations in fiber!
