The Adventure Begins!
Yesterday I started off on a grand adventure–driving across the country with my son Phil, who is moving to LA to start medical school next month.
Our first stop after leaving Virginia in the morning was Fallingwater–the glorious weekend home Frank Lloyd Wright built for the Kaufman family in the 1930s. I had never been there, despite studying modern architecture for my art history degree back in the day. It was all I expected and more. We spent an inspirational afternoon touring the house and grounds on a gorgeous summer day. The texture of the stones on the walls, the feeling of space inside and out, the wood and textiles in the interior–my mind is spinning with ideas.
We drove all the way to Toledo, OH last night in order to have as much time as possible in Chicago today.
I hope to post regularly about our progress–more about inspiration for the next two weeks than about creating art, but I think it’s going to give me lots of ideas to explore when I get back to the studio. Plus I feel like the luckiest mom in the world that my son asked me to keep him company on the trip–it’s going to be amazing!
