Neighborhood Cindy Grisdela 2011

Here’s a sneak peak of the latest quilted piece from my March Project – 30 art quilt tops in one month.

This one is “Neighborhood,” one of the pieces that will go in a new joint exhibit with friend and fellow artist Jennifer Duncan in July.  It still needs to be mounted with a background on stretcher bars, but I’m excited to have the texture added with the stitching lines. One of these days I’m going to have to clean the stray threads off my design wall so they don’t distract from the photos!

If you right-click on the image, you can see the quilting lines better–there are square spirals in the pieced section with the houses, cloud/wind formations in the upper solid orange section and organic arcs in the lower green section. The arcs remind me of roundabouts in some neighborhoods intended to slow traffic.

Click here in the March blog archives to read about the inspiration for this piece–it’s Day 6 of the project.
