One of a Kind Show Chicago 2014 Cindy Grisdela

I made it to Chicago yesterday for the One of A Kind Show and Sale that starts today.

It was an interesting travel day–my flight was delayed leaving DC and I was already cutting it close. I had all my work in two large suitcases that weighed just under 50 pounds each, plus a small shoulder bag with my clothes. I flew into Chicago’s Midway airport, got my bags, and hopped on the subway–or maybe “hopping” isn’t the word for what you do when you have two 50 pound bags to muscle around!

I was absolutely amazed at the kindness I received from strangers during the trip. People held doors open for me and gave me directions. One man even carried one of my heavy bags from one train to another when I had to switch lines midway through the journey! Thank you from the bottom of my heart to all those kind people.

I arrived at the venue–the Merchandise Mart in Chicago, which is so big I understand has its own zip code–around 5:15, late and tired. I had about two hours to set up my booth, and the long sticks I had sent FedEx to myself that were supposed to arrive Wednesday didn’t get here. The sticks go in the hanging sleeves of my bigger quilts so they can be attached to the wall. They’re supposed to arrive today by 10:30–did I say the show starts today at 11 AM?

That’s why the image you see of my booth today shows only one wall with relatively small pieces! I hope the sticks will get here in time, but if they don’t, I’ll have to rearrange for today to cover the holes where the big quilts are supposed to be. It’s always something in the life of a traveling artist, right?

This is an amazing show! Over 600 artists exhibiting every kind of creativity you can imagine. They call it Chicago’s Holiday Shopping Show and I can believe it. The show runs from 11-8 today, 11-7 Friday, 10-7 Saturday and 10-5 Sunday. Admission is $12.

I’m in Booth 3063 on the 7th floor–come out and shop handmade!

Greetings from NYC but only for a minute, the train is about to pull out for New Haven and from there, rental car to Windsor. So can’t make it to your big show. Hope the shipment arrives in time and that it’s a big success.
    Cheers,
    Robin

If it’s not one thing, it’s another. Hope your day got rapidly better and that you enjoyed opening day. The small stuff is so worth looking at that maybe it can shine while the big stuff waits in the wings. Thumbs up for effort – you score an A+.
